This is a you tube describing the string damping technique used by John Lennon when he covered the old rock and roll song Stand by Me. The technique is called right hand damping because you use your right hand, or strumming hand, to damp the strings. It’s really easy to do and sounds great, especially on acoustic guitar so try it out.

If you have ever spent some time learning guitar tab, or reading sheet music, you will have come across the concept of inverted guitar chords, also called slash chords. They are chords that have two different names separated by a slash such as D/F#.

Learning how to strum your acoustic guitar correctly is often the biggest difference between sounding like an amateur and sounding like a pro. A really good acoustic guitarist can a make even the simplest guitar chord progression sound great with great strumming technique. A guitarist with poor strumming technique however will struggle to impress even the enthusiastic audience.
